Acupuncture Therapy
Acupuncture is a collection of procedures involving penetration of the skin with tiny, hair-thin disposable needles to stimulate certain points in the body to trigger the body's natural healing response. It is a traditional Chinese medical technique which has been practised in China for more than 4000 years. The operating philosophy of traditional acupuncture is that disease is caused by interrupted energy (Qi) flow at specific points on the body's surface. Acupuncture thus involves the insertion of a needle(s) at the affected point(s) in order to stimulate Qi flow, harmonize energy flow and correct imbalances in the flow of Qi in the body .Qi is somewhat equivalent to the western idea of vitality or life-force which is believed to flow through the body along 14 main pathways called meridians.
When disease or dysfunction occurs, acupuncturists know which points to manipulate to restore the natural flow of energy(Qi) and to restore balance to the body's systems. The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture stimulates the body's natural healing abilities, reducing inflammation, and promoting physical and emotional well-being.
Only high quality disposable needles for single use are being used in our clinic. When the needles are inserted you may feel a slight tingling sensation. Sometimes you might feel numbness at the point of entry or an energy transfer along the meridian to another part of the body.We call this a de-qi or “arrival of qi” sensation. This response during needling is usually considered a very positive response.
There are various other techniques based on the principle of acupuncture. These include Auricular-Acupuncture and Electro-Acupuncture. Auricular-Acupuncture concentrates on application of specific points in the ears. It is more effective to some particular conditions such as addictions, insomnia, stress, etc. Both Auricular-Acupuncture and Electro-Acupuncture can be applied with or without needles.
